Sports Group Committee
Chairperson: Mr. Jiang Heping
Mr. Jiang Heping, the Controller of CCTV Sports has been unanimously re-elected as the Chairperson of the ABU Sports Group at its 56th ABU Sports Conference in Beijing May 7- 9, 2015.
Mr. Heping expressed his appreciation to the Sports Group members for their goodwill and confidence, and re-electing him. Mr Heping assured his support to the group for the development of Sports broadcasting in Asia and the Pacific.
The ABU Sports Group is open to ABU members interested in sports broadcasting. The group meets twice a year. Its discussions cover sports rights and facilities to trends in sports broadcasting, information on upcoming events of interest and relations with sporting bodies.
Often, guest speakers are invited from federations, organising committees and sports agencies to attend the ABU Sports Conference, which is held back to back to the ABU Sports Group. The Secretariat maintains contact on sports matters with other broadcasting unions and major sports federations. The Head of Sport attends important international meetings on sports broadcasting and passes on information to the members.
Broadcast Rights Committee

The Chairperson of the Broadcast Rights Committee, Mr. Hamid Iraniha of
IRIB was elected at the 57th ABU Sports Group Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey in October 2015.
IRIB- Iran, Ariana TV- Afghanistan, SLRC- Sri Lanka and TVB- Hong Kong were elected as the new members of the Broadcast Rights Committee at the 56th Sports Group Conference in Beijing May, 7-9, 2015
The Broadcast Rights Committee or BRC meets twice a year – during the ABU General Assembly in October and in Spring. The committee basically reviews the activities of the ABU Sports and discuss issues related to rights acquisition of sporting events.
Chairperson: Mr. John West
The Chairperson of the Finance Committee, Mr. John West of TVNZ was elected at the 57th ABU Sports Group Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey in October 2015.
The Finance Committee also re-elected two members- TPT- Thailand and MediaCorp- Singapore. TVNZ- New Zealand was newly elected to the Finance Committee as the sixth member at the 56th Sports Group Conference in Beijing, China.
TVB- Hong Kong, Ariana TV- Afghanistan, and VTV- Vietnam were elected as the new members of the Finance Committee at the 59th Sports Group Conference in Bali October, 18-20, 2016
The committee is mandated to maintain that the expenditure from the Sports Fund is spent judiciously for the benefit of the members. The fund is basically meant to develop and enhance sports broadcasting and support a limited number of members who are unable to pay for the rights and technical costs.
