Meet the Secretariat Staff

The office of the Secretary-General looks after all administration, staffing, public and international relations, financial matters and information systems.


Natalia Ilieva
Head of SG’s Office

Natalia is responsible for strategic development, members, external relations and marketing. She began her career in Bulgarian National Television and has since worked in the media for more than 20 years, including ten years in the BBC World Service. Natalia holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa, Canada and the University of Kent, UK. Prior to her ABU role she worked at Thomson Foundation, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, Forward, and the AIBD, where she oversaw the development of Gender Guidelines for Asia-Pacific broadcasters.

Chew Yoong Lian
Manager, Finance and Administration

Lian is Malaysian and began working with the ABU in 1998.


Seemantani Sharma
Legal & IP Services Officer

Seemantani Sharma is an Intellectual Property Lawyer licensed to practice in India. Prior to joining the ABU, she worked in various legal capacities in the U.S. and India. Her last stint was at the George Washington University and the Recording Industry Association of America.

She holds a Master of Laws specialising in Intellectual Property from the George Washington University Law School.

Seemantani is an Indian and joined the ABU in June, 2016.

Larson Moth
Manager, Public Affairs & Communications

Larson holds a Masters in Applied Linguistics and a Post Graduate Diploma in Communications Management and has worked in communications for the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank and the ASEAN Secretariat. Larson has significant experience in journalism and corporate communications in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

Vu Ngoc Anh
Personal Assistant to SG

Anh has worked in VOV for 34 years. She holds Bachelors degrees in Broadcasting, English Language and Politics. She had been working in VOV International Department and organized VOV’s participation in many ABU projects.

Anh is Vietnamese and joined ABU in August 2018.

Nitesh Chand
Finance & Administration Officer

Nitesh Chand is a Fijian national and joined the ABU in September 2016. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and Member of the CPA of Australia. Nitesh also holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Accounting, Banking and Finance from the University of South Pacific. He worked for FIJI TELEVISION LTD (FTV) as Finance Manager for the last three years.

Faten Amira Binti Rahmat
Finance & Administration Officer

Faten Amira Binti Rahmat holds a Bachelor Degree in Accountancy from Universiti Utara Malaysia. She previously worked as Finance Executive for two years at Media Prima Berhad and was also an external auditor at Ernst & Young.

Faten is Malaysian and joined the ABU in February 2016.

Nadzim Zainal
Media Communications Designer

Nadzim joined the ABU in June 2011 as the webmaster and graphic designer that designs the layout of the quarterly ABU News, Annual Reports and other ABU publications, including ABU’s promotional materials. Apart from that, Nadzim is also the official photographer. 

Ruchi Malhotra
Assistant SG’s Office

Ruchi Malhotra holds a Bachelors in Science from the University of Delhi, India and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration with a specialization in HR. She has around 8 years experience in various roles within HR / Administrative functions.

Ruchi is an Indian and has joined the ABU in July 2018.

Kuamis Kimjun
Accounts Assistant

Ms Kuamis Kimjun is a Malaysian Citizen. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics, majoring in Finance from the Universiti Putra Malaysia. Ms Kuamis has over 10 years of experience in Administration and Accounting. She joined ABU in October 2015.

Administration Assistant

Shan, a Malaysian, joined the ABU in 1999.

ABU Technology
Ahmed Nadeem
Director, ABU Technology & Innovation

Mr Nadeem is an experienced electronic and ICT engineer with over 20 years of experience in the field of Broadcasting and Telecommunications. He has been working with ABU Technology Department since 2008. He previously worked as a Project Engineer at LSV Enterprises of Singapore (2007-2008) and before that with Television Maldives (1996-2007).

Nguyen Thanh Nam
Specialist Engineer

Nam is Vietnamese and he joined the ABU in March 2013. Since 2003, he worked at the Broadcast Engineering Centre of the Radio Department of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV).

Nam graduated in Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 2003. He also completed an MBA in 2007.

Shree Bhadra Wagle
Manager Production & Delivery Technologies

Mr Wagle is from Nepal and holds an M Tech (Satellite Communications, India); MBA (Management, UK); BE (EEE, India). Mr Wagle served at Radio Nepal, a Government Radio Broadcaster, from 1992 to 2017 and retired as Deputy Executive Director. He was Associate Professor at Kantipur Engineering College, Nepal from Oct 2017 to Sept 2018.

Siva Kumar
Manager, IT Department

Siva is Malaysian. He is skilled in developing, implementing and supporting information systems and networking. He joined the ABU in January 2009.

Amir bin Khairul Anuar
Systems Support Officer

Amir is Malaysian and joined the ABU in August 2017. He holds a bachelor degree in Datacommunication and Networking (IT) from Multimedia University. He previously worked in Shah Alam as IT Executive, and also as IT Technical Assistant at Malaysia Companies Commission (SSM). Amir was also employed at Palace of Justice back in 2009.

Geraldine Peters-Williams
Project Coordinator

Geraldine is Malaysian. She joined the ABU in 1996.

Hamidah Rani
Team Assistant 

Hamidah is Malaysian and joined the ABU in 2000.

ABU Programming
Koichi Okumura
Director, ABU Programming

Koichi Okumura joined the ABU in February 2018. He is a Japanese national and started his career with the Japanese public broadcaster NHK in 1991. He has mainly produced science programmes for the last 25 years, with the last one and a half years serving as ABU Liaison Officer of NHK. Mr Okumura holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Tokyo, Japan.

Hanizah Hamzah
Head of TV

A Malaysian, Hanizah has worked for Radio Televisyen Malaysia as a radio producer and TV anchorwoman, as well as for NHK’s Radio Japan. She joined the ABU in August 2006.

Olya Booyar
Head of Radio

Born in Ukraine and educated in Canada, Olya began her career as an on-air
broadcaster-journalist with SBS in Australia and rose rapidly through the
organisation, before leaving to become Deputy Director of the countryąs
national Classification Board. As well as working previously for the ABU,
she has been a General Manager for the Australian Communications & Media
Authority (ACMA) and most recently worked at the Australian Writersą
Guild. She is a past-President of the global International Association of
Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT).

Hamdhoon Rashad
Project Manager, New Media

Hamdhoon Rashad joined the ABU Programme Department in March 2016. He is a Maldivian and began his professional career with the state broadcaster Television Maldives (TVM) as a broadcast journalist. Hamdhoon has also been assigned to various mediums in different locations around the world including India, Malaysia and the US. Most recently he was working with the United Nations in Maldives as a Communication Analyst. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Broadcasting and Journalism from Malaysia.


Lai Kai Yan

Assistant

Yan joined the ABU in February 2014 as Team Assistant in the Programme Department. Yan has a Bachelor of Sports Science from the University of Malaya and has worked in administration, promotions and retail before joining the ABU.  Yan is  Malaysian.

Qairunnisa Ahmad Noor Ridi
Team Assistant

Qairunnisa Ahmad Noor Ridi joined the ABU’s Programme Department as Team Assistant in March 2016. She is a graduate in International Relations with French from Nottingham University, Malaysia Campus. Nisa is Malaysian.

ABU Sports
Cai Yanjiang

Director, ABU Sports 

Yanjiang was from CCTV where he was Senior Producer of the CCTV sports channel. He graduated from the China Central Academy of Drama with a Masters degree in Film and Television theory. Yanjiang joined the ABU in July 2012.

Kesang

Senior Project Manager

Kesang joined the ABU from BBS Bhutan in July 2014. Prior to the ABU, he worked as the Head/General Manager of the News Channel at BBS. Kesang has extensive experience in news and production having started his career in broadcast media as a news reporter in 1994. He has worked in various capacities both in News and Programming at BBS, including planning and execution of broadcast development activities, expansion and diversification of content production as well as coverage of many important national and international sporting events. 

Jeff H.C. Kim

Broadcast Rights Manager

Jeff is a graduate of Seoul National University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations. He has worked with KBS for the last 23 years.​ Starting his career as a Producer for live coverage, he has concentrated on the Coordinating Producer and Rights Acquisition Manager for many sports events. Before joining ABU, he has been the main contact person for KBS Sports.

Nur Jalilah
Assistant

Nur Jalilah joined the ABU in January 2015. She is a Malaysian national who graduated from University of Malaya with a Bachelor Degree in Sports Science, majoring in Sports Management.
Prior to the ABU she worked at the Malaysian Airlines contact centre and assisted at the Asian Football Confederation.

Asiavision
Wendy Everett
Director, ABU News

Wendy joined the ABU from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) where her journalism career included television news, radio news and current affairs and online news and features. She was founding Executive Producer of the Australia Network satellite television news service to Asia, South Asia and the Pacific and spent three years in media development in Honiara as part of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI). Her latest role with the ABC focused on radio current affairs for the Pacific.

Tan Hock Guan
Senior Editor

Hock Guan is Malaysian and is in charge of the daily coordination of the news exchange. He joined Asiavision in 2001 and was appointed Senior Editor in 2006.

Nisha Parmanadan
Asiavision Coordinator

A Malaysian, Nisha was a journalist with Bernama Radio24, before she joined the ABU in March 2011.

Premalatha Jayaraman
Asiavision Coordinator

Premalatha joined the ABU in November 2017. She is a Malaysian national who worked as a journalist for 16 years in various publications in Malaysia. She started working as a journalist since 2001.

Shabana Jan
News Project Officer

Shabana joined the ABU in April 2012. In her previous roles Shabana worked in tourism, travel, sports and retail. She is a Malaysian.
