India & China to set up working group on film and broadcast
India and China have decided to expand their collaboration in broadcasting and films through festivals, exchange of artists and students as well as through co-productions.
The two countries will now set up a joint working group for films and broadcasting sector, Indian Express reports. This was decided at a recent meeting on Tuesday between I&B Minister Manish Tewari of India and his Chinese counterpart Cai Fuchao.
I&B Secretary Uday Kumar Varma said the issue of allowing landing rights to Doordarshan in China was also discussed.
The working group will look at modalities for co-production agreements with China to facilitate shooting of films in each other’s country, exchange of trained personnel and exchange of more movies and television dramas.
India also invited China to become the ‘principal guest country’ at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2014 in Goa.
“Such film-related interactions where each can shoot films in the other’s locales can lead to vibrant people-to-people contact,” Tewari said.
