ABU: Global News Forum – Sendai, Japan March 14-15, 2015

The second Global News Forum (GNF) organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) will be held on 15 March 2015 in Sendai, Japan. The Japanese national Broadcaster NHK will host the event in one of the regions struck by an earthquake and a tsunami in 2011.

In fact, the main theme of  the GNF 2015 is “Informing People, Saving Lives: Broadcasting during Disasters and  which will take place in parallel with the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in Sendai. ABU Secretary General, Dr Javad Mottaghi said that this grouping of broadcasting professionals will be an opportunity to show “ how the broadcasting industry copes and covers the occurrence of natural disasters and underlines that  the new media have an important role to play in promoting awareness and assist in disaster risk reduction.”

Disaster preparation through educational programme, Weather Broadcasts, Preparing for a Mega-Disaster, Advances in Emergency Reporting will be among the presentations to be made by specialists coming from top TV organisations and Meteorological services.

One day prior to the Global News Forum, Heads of News and senior journalists from the ABU member countries will participate in the Union’s News Group Meeting.   Speakers  mainly from Europe , Japan, Singapore and China will share their experiences  on various topics such as New Trend in Disaster Reporting, How to Cope with Breaking News and Eurovision’s Operations.
