Media 2020 – A forum to prepare for the Century, says ABU President
Mr Ko-Dae young, the ABU President and President & CEO of KBS-Korea addressed delegates at the Media 2020 conference in Sinaia, Romania through a video message.
He firstly greeted his friends and colleagues from EBU and ABU, EBU President Mr Jean Paul Philippot, Radio Romania Acting Director General, Mr Georgica Severin and ABU Secretary-General, Dr Javad Mottaghi.
He explained why he could not attend the conference, “I’m very sad and sorry that I cannot be part of this great conference. As you’re well aware, tensions have highly escalated around the Korean Peninsula following North Korea’s nuclear test conducted on September 3rd. The role and responsibility of KBS as the nation’s primary public service media is most significant at this critical time when national and regional peace and security are threatened. I believe my fellow journalists will fully understand the inevitable circumstances where I find it very difficult to leave KBS and Korea. All my colleagues at KBS and I are trying our best to fulfil our mission as Korea’s major PSM to keep Korean audiences well-informed of the grave situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula and to keep the nation properly-prepared for possible risks and dangers.”
The theme of the third edition of Media 2020 was How Can Asia-Europe Cooperation Help New Media Challenges?
Mr Ko-Dae young said discussions would focus on a wide variety of issues regarding digital and new media, ranging from its development to responsibility and diversity. He congratulated ABU and Radio Romania for their achievements made over the past two years of Media 2020. The ABU President underlined that Media 2020 is a forum where broadcasters can gather experience, knowledge and wisdom to prepare for the 21st century.
