SERVING THE PEOPLE: MEDIA’S ROLE IN TIMES OF CRISIS

59th ABU General Assembly and Associated Meetings

25 – 30 November 2022, New Delhi, India

WELCOME TO THE 59th ABU GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND ASSOCIATED MEETINGS REGISTRATION !

The ABU Secretariat is looking forward to meeting you all in person in Delhi after two years of virtual General Assemblies. In November, for the 59th time the movers and shakers in the broadcast industry from Asia – Pacific region and beyond will gather for six days of networking, exchange of ideas and discussions on future strategies, joint actions and partnerships.

The theme of the conversation this year, “Serving the People: Media’s Role in Times of Crisis”, calls for putting the unprecedented reach and power of media at service of our people at a critical moment for the humanity. The climate crisis, increased conflicts and looming post – COVID recession are threats to our way of life and even to our very existence. We are at a cross-road. The decisions we make today will shape the future we want for our children. Media should be a key player in shaping this future – re-focusing from immediate local issues to the larger challenges of humankind that will impact everyone.

In Delhi we have to answer key questions. What is it that only broadcasters can provide to the audience in this changing world and media landscape? What is our strong point? How to connect with listeners and viewers on multiple platforms? We know some of the answers. We can deliver a more real experience through 4K, 8K and VR, more social experience via social media, public screenings, more secure experience by open journalism and fact-checking and more free experience through Mobile and catch-up viewing services, anytime, anywhere.

Re-connecting and serving diverse audiences on multiple platforms is the only way to secure the future of broadcasting in the digital age. The question is how to use the latest technological advancements in media gathering and delivery to make our content and services irresistible and outstanding the test of time.
