4th ABU Awards on Climate Change and DRR

Forty five Radio and TV programmes entered the 4th ABU Awards on Climate Change and DRRThe prestigious competition aims to inspire content producers across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond to cover the two most critical issues for the future of humankind – climate change and disasters. The Best Radio Feature on Climate Change received the highest number of entries with 14 submissions followed by the Best TV Feature on Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction with 11 entries. The Best Radio Feature on Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction and the Best TV Feature on Climate Change each received 10 entries. Some of the participating countries include India, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Italy and Thailand among others. 

The contest honours innovative and creative Radio and TV Programmes, which inform and educate audiences about best practices in climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness. With less than two weeks to go until the event, ABU would like to urge its members to send in more entries for the four categories of the contest that include Best Radio and TV Feature on Climate Change and the Best Radio and TV Feature on Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction.

The winners will be awarded at a gala event at the 5th ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Preparedness in Kathmandu, Nepal from 25-26 April 2019.

The popularity of the awards keeps growing year by year. This is the fourth year since the ABU contest was launched in 2016. The previous three editions were held in Fiji in 2018, Dhaka in 2017 and Krabi in 2016. This year the Awards were sponsored by UNI-Apro.
