ABU Sports Group elects a New Chairperson:


The Head of the Sports of KBS Korea, Mr Kimoon Lee is the new Chairman of the ABU Sports Group. Mr Lee was elected unanimously at an election during the Sports Group conference at Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan, June 14-16, 2019. Mr Lee, who replaced Mr Jiang Heping, the Controller of the China Global Television Network will serve for a three-year term. 

Mr. Lee said, he will strive to help you strengthen solidarity, enhance co-operation, and pursue common goals among ABU members in Asia and the Pacific. 

Mr Lee is a Ph.D candidate of Seoul National University majored in Sports Media. He entered KBS in 1991 and worked over 20 years for KBS Sports as a Senior Producer. Among others Mr Lee served as the Director of several big mega and multi-sporting events, including the 2004 Athens Olympics Archery team and invented the famous “arrow shot'" now accepted as a standard.

Mr Lee comes with multiple skills and years of experience in international affairs and coordination to magazine show production. Mr Lee replaces the Mr Jiang Heping who served as the Chairperson of the ABU Sports Group since 2013.

The ABU Sports Group is open to ABU members interested in sports broadcasting. The group meets twice a year. It discussions cover sports rights and facilities to trends in sports broadcasting, information on upcoming events of interest and relations with sporting bodies.

The Broadcast Rights Committee or BRC meets twice a year – during the ABU General Assembly in October and in Spring. The committee basically reviews the activities of the ABU Sports and discuss issues related to rights acquisition of sporting events.

The committee is mandated to maintain that the expenditure from the Sports Fund is spent judiciously for the benefit of the members. The fund is basically meant to develop and enhance sports broadcasting and support a limited number of members who are unable to pay for the rights and technical costs.
