At our last PMPC in Apia, Samoa, in August 2019, before COVID hit us all, we looked at living in a world of exponential transformation that was getting faster and faster.
Little could we have envisaged how dramatic and urgent that change would soon become and how critical the challenges that would confront us in the Pacific Islands region. COVID took all the everyday pressures of broadcasting in the 2020s together with traditional cultures and lifestyles, exacerbated by diversity and distance … and then supercharged them.
So this year’s virtual ABU Pacific Media Partnership Conference looked at how we can continue serving our audiences at a time when some of our populations are being crushed by COVID and our stations themselves are short of staff and funds in spiraling economies?
