These sessions will be held every Thursday at 1:00 pm, KL time, starting 14 March 2024.

Thursday, 14 March
Session 1: Trends – Distribution of Product – Selling Internationally
AFTRS Expert: Dr Pia Aquilia / Peter Herbert

In this opening session, we start off with introductions and projects. Participants will be encouraged to share aims and outcomes in a manner that will enable us to refine our approach and content. Participants will be encouraged to develop distribution plans over the course of the program. Following the introductions, we will explore the current landscape in distribution, variety of platforms and markets and content.

Session 2: Understanding Markets
AFTRS Expert: Dr Pia Aquilia / Peter Herbert / Guest Speaker
In this session, we will take a detailed look at the major markets, how they work, what type of content, and approaches to presenting and selling your content. Focus will be on development of individual projects.

Session 3: Product to Market – Strategic Relationships
AFTRS Expert: Julie Green / Juliette Pierce
Strategic Relationships form the basis of many successful distribution campaigns. In this session, we will explore strategies, expectations, key contacts and relationships when preparing for distribution markets. The role of Distributors and Sales Agents will eb examined.

Session 4: Pitch-deck Workshop
AFTRS Expert: Dr Pia Aquilia / Peter Herbert / Guest speaker

This session will explore creation of pitch decks for markets. The session will be interactive, with opportunities for participants to develop their project plans.

Peter Herbert

Peter Herbert is the Program Convenor and Head of Screen Business AFTRS. Peter previously held the position as AFTRS Head of Producing & Head of Drama. Another notable from his extensive career was Head of Comedy & Entertainment, Granada Australia.

Peter has an extensive writing, teaching, producing and script editing career in film and television, with many broadcast credits in Australia and internationally.

Peter’s specialties are:
– development of projects
– script work and script editing
– producing comedy
– new media content

Dr Pia Aquilla

About: Dr Pieter Aquilla
Dr Pieter Aquilia is a scriptwriter, script editor and director, who has combined her creative practice with a career in academia. Formerly an Associate Dean and Associate Arts Professor for NYU Tisch School of the Arts Asia, she was also Associate Professor and Head of Program at UNSW Asia and University of Newcastle. Pieter completed her Doctor of Creative Arts in Scriptwriting at University of Technology Sydney in 2000. Pieter’s research publications cover International Television Drama, the Globalization of Screen Education, Ethnic and Gender Representation on Screen, and the Media in Asia. Dr. Aquilla graduated from the BA Program at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) in 1988.
