Course: Television Presentation Skills

The television presenter is the front-person for a program, news bulletin or current affairs show. They are responsible for introducing and interviewing guests, linking segments, and generally holding the show together. The key to successful presenting is knowing and using a few simple insights about engaging and entertaining your audience. In this course, you will learn basic delivery tips and tricks to present in a calm and professional style, particularly when under pressure in a live broadcast.

Brad Smart

Brad Smart has been active in Australian media for over 40 years across television news, radio, documentaries, and drama for both film and television.

In recent times, Brad has been working as a Performance Coach, helping new television and radio reporters and presenters from the Seven Network, WIN-TV and SCA (Southern Cross Austereo) improve the quality of their on-air performances and their writing abilities. Brad has also mentored many corporate executives and politicians, helping them enhance the way they perform on-camera and in front of live audiences.

After obtaining an Electronic Engineering degree, Brad embarked on a career in journalism. Brad worked in radio and television, starting out as a cadet in radio, moving through both television and radio newsrooms as a journalist, and news anchor to eventually becoming News Editor at Channel 7, Canberra. Brad’s later senior roles were Chief of Staff and Deputy News Director for Channel 10, Melbourne. For Channel 9, Melbourne, Brad was Chief of Staff and a senior Producer.

After leaving television news, Brad set-up an independent film production company, writing and directing some 60 major television documentaries over two decades. During this time, he also directed nearly 40 television and film dramas working closely with actors and developing the skills, that would later allow him to apply this knowledge as a Performance Coach.

Brad is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has been a member of Commercial Radio Australia’s Regional Committee since 2008.
