Introduction to TV Production Styles

Throughout this session you will gain an understanding of the various television production styles in News, Current Affairs and Sports coverage.

Topics, with examples for each, will include:

  • The differences between television and film productions
  • How and why television needs faster production turnaround
  • Equipment which helps television production in fast turnarounds
  • A revision of news coverage in the past (film)
  • A revision of news coverage by television
  • Multi camera and single camera in television (studio based and outside broadcasting/OB)
  • Pre-recorded programmes vs. live
  • Different sections of television studio or production truck
  • A revision of advanced technologies such as ‘virtual studios’ and IP OB Productions (IP/internet protocol)

Dr Hassan Jamalinik


Dr Hassan has been producing, directing, shooting and editing TV programmes since the late eighties. He has also worked as a commissioning editor and executive producer of documentaries from Europe to the Americas, Africa and Asia.

Dr Hassan’s extensive career also includes roles as director in multi-camera, studio based productions – live chat shows, news, events, seminars, conventions, film festivals, plus educational programmes.

Dr Hassan has over 30 years of experience in television production. In 2015 established London TV Training Ltd. Between 2009 and 2015, Dr Hassan was Documentary Commissioning Editor at News Anew Ltd.

In 2010, Dr Hassan was also a member of Participatory Management Consulting, The Future of the Educational Television at TRT, Anadolu University, Eskisehir (Turkey).
