Course: Verification Tools to Counter Fake Content

This course is scheduled for Wednesday 12 April 2023 at 2pm KL.

Registration Please register before Friday 7 April.

In our digital media world, media organisations and journalists face unprecedented challenges when it comes to distinguishing truth from lies, authentic content from fabricated disinformation and original sources from “sock puppets” or bots. On top of that, social platforms allow anyone to share false and misleading information and sophisticated AI driven applications enable manipulation of audiovisual material or even the production of outright “synthetic” audio and video (also known as Deep Fakes). These developments pose a considerable threat to society and democratic processes around the world. With the infodemic about elections, wars, Coronavirus, etc., accompanying current world events, the situation for media and journalists has become even worse.

Verification and fact checking has become one of the key skills for journalists worldwide. This webinar will include examples of the many disinformation campaigns that continue to and have been taking place in the last few years, and will also showcase the collaborative verification platform Truly Media
