We are pleased to inform you that the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has organised the Regional Workshop on Engineering Fundamentals for Broadcasters from 6^th – 10^th January 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Media and broadcast technology and infrastructure have been evolving rapidly in recent years. This has brought many challenges to broadcast and media institutions. Not only traditional broadcast infrastructures, but also human resource requirements have changed and are changing continuously.

AIMS

The workshop aims to provide basic engineering fundamentals for broadcast engineers and technologists who are at the beginning of their careers. The workshop focuses on fundamentals of IT, audio and video systems, engineering techniques and applications. It will also facilitate participants to learn about the current trends and advancements in broadcast technologies. The knowledge gained will help participants to build confidence in operating in an evolving media value chain.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the workshop the participants will be able to explain and apply in their work:

• Basics of Audio and Video
• Basics of Electrical Power Systems
• Concepts of analogue to digital signal conversion
• Signal Measurements
• Radio and TV transmission concepts, techniques and technologies
• Digital Production, Studio Design
• Media Asset Management and Archiving
• Converged media-IT-broadcast environment
• Evolving media and delivery platforms

INVITATION

We are delighted to invite technical staff in broadcast stations, broadcast engineers, technologists, technicians and IT support staff in broadcasting, especially young team players who have had some exposures to IT, audio and video systems to participate in this workshop.

WORKSHOP VENUE

The workshop will take place at Holiday Inn Express Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

ACCOMMODATION

We have made arrangements for participants to stay in the same hotel for the special rate of MYR232 nett (approx. USD56.00) per night. As the number of rooms is limited early registration is advised.

EXPENSES

There are no registration/participation fees for ABU members. Non-members will have to pay a registration fee of US$200.00 to cover meeting costs for the workshop.

All expenses on the travel and stay of your nominee are to be borne by your organisation.
