As part of our ABU activities in 2020, NHK is providing the following program for young engineers from ABU member broadcasters and organizations to conduct research at NHK STRL (Science and Technology Research Laboratories) for a period of three (3) to twelve (12) months.

It is our pleasure to announce these application details.

Guidelines for Application

  1. Applicants must fulfill the following requirements.
  • Affiliation : ABU member organization
  • Age : Under 35
  • Experience : Post-doctorate or equivalently qualified technical engineer in a relevant field
  • Language skill : Sufficient English or Japanese skills to conduct research in Japan

(700 or above TOEIC score is recommended)

  1. Research theme must be related to broadcasting technology such as digital and multi-media broadcasting.
  2. Accommodation costs and meal expenses during the stay in Japan will be included in the program.
  3. Traveling expenses to and from Japan will not be included in the program.

How to Apply

  1. Applicants must submit the following documents to the NHK Secretariat.
  • “PERSONAL DATA OF APPLICANT “ (download form)
  • Brief resume (academic record, occupational career, TOEIC scores, etc.)
  • Text describing the research theme
  • Copies of recently-published research documents
  • Letter of recommendation from the executive chief engineer or the equivalent
  • Certificate of latest medical examination
  • Report on your view on future broadcasting technology (less than 3 pages in A4 size)
  • Certificate of final degree (doctor, master, or bachelor)
  1. NHK STRL will carry out an interview as needed, screen the applicants and inform the successful candidate once finalized.
