NBC shuts international channels in Greece, Turkey and Japan

NBC Universal is closing several international channels reports Advanced Television. The channels – part of NBC Universal’s international television group – include the general entertainment Universal Channel in Greece, Turkey and Japan.

In Japan, NBC Universal wants to focus on the other channels it runs in the country, Golf and its news network CNBC. The Syfy channel in Russia will also close while Universal and Diva will still operate, according to Television Business International (TBI). The closures will mean job losses to add to the 450 already announced at NBCU in the US.

Earlier this month NBCUniversal renewed a channel deal with BSkyB for channels including Universal Channel, E! Entertainment, Syfy, The Style Network and Movies 24 on the pay TV platform.

The Universal Networks bouquet comprises Syfy Universal, Diva Universal, Studio Universal, Universal Channel and 13th Street Universal, E! Entertainment, The Style Network, Golf Channel, Movies 24 and KidsCo.
