ABU Robocon heading for India

The ABU will stage its 13th annual Asia-Pacific Robocon robot contest in India later this month.

The event, on 24 August 2014, will bring together 18 teams of science students from 17 Asia-Pacific countries at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune.

The theme for this year’s competition is “A salute to parenthood”, requiring a parent robot and a child robot made by each team to undertake four challenging tasks that simulate playground equipment such as seesaws or swings.

The contest originally proposed by NHK-Japan was launched in 2002 and last year’s contest in Danang, Vietnam, was won by a team from Kanazawa Institute of Technology in Japan.

Teams provisionally entered this year will come from Bangladesh, Egypt, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

Internationally co-produced TV coverage of the competition will be distributed and broadcast by participating ABU member networks.
