ABC is trialling AI tools to support journalists and improve newsroom workflows, including using AI to transform regional radio news bulletins into digital articles. The technology is intended to assist with routine tasks, allowing journalists to focus more on original reporting, while human journalists remain responsible for fact-checking, editing and final editorial decisions. 

At the same time, the adoption of AI has raised concerns about job security, transparency and audience trust. In response, ABC has introduced updated AI principles and training to encourage responsible use of the technology, with a strong emphasis on human oversight, editorial accountability and maintaining public confidence in ABC journalism.
