Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS) has reaffirmed its commitment to trusted, inclusive and innovative public-service media as it presented its 2024 and 2025 annual performance reports to Thailand’s House of Representatives.
Led by Thai PBS Board of Governors Chairperson Dr Komatra Chuengsatiensap and Director General Vanchai Tantivittayapitak, the broadcaster highlighted its progress in responding to a rapidly changing media environment while continuing to serve audiences with reliable information and public-interest content.
Among its key developments is the continued growth of VIPA, Thai PBS’s national digital media platform, alongside investments in media literacy and Thai PBS Verify, its fact-checking initiative. These efforts reflect the broadcaster’s expanding role beyond news delivery to helping audiences navigate misinformation and make informed decisions.
Public trust remains a significant strength for Thai PBS. According to figures presented during the session, the 2025 Reuters Institute Digital News Report found that 72 per cent of respondents trusted Thai PBS. An assessment by Chulalongkorn University also found that 93 per cent considered the broadcaster necessary for Thai society, while 70 per cent regarded it as a reliable news source.
Members of Parliament recognised Thai PBS for its contribution to public-service broadcasting, including its coverage of marginalised and ethnic communities, children’s educational programming and journalism addressing issues that may receive less attention from commercial media.
The discussion also provided recommendations for Thai PBS’s future development, including greater coverage of agriculture and local sports, stronger audience participation, enhanced budget transparency and exploration of additional revenue opportunities to support long-term sustainability.
Thai PBS welcomed the recommendations and reiterated that maintaining public trust would remain at the heart of its work.
As audience habits and the wider media landscape continue to evolve, Thai PBS is positioning itself as more than a traditional broadcaster — strengthening its digital services, supporting media literacy and continuing its mission to provide credible and accessible public-service media for communities across Thailand.
