Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has moved a step closer to appointing its next president, with the field of candidates narrowed to four as part of the broadcaster’s leadership selection process.
The Foundation for Broadcast Culture, MBC’s largest shareholder and oversight body, selected the four candidates following interviews with eight shortlisted applicants on 4 September.
The four candidates are Lee Keun-haeng, former head of MBC’s Content Strategy Division; Lee Sung-joo, a director at iMBC; Lee Ho-in, President of Yeosu MBC; and Jeon Dong-geon, former President of Ulsan MBC. The next stage will introduce public participation into the selection process. A nomination committee comprising 150 members of the public will hear policy presentations from the four candidates before evaluating them and selecting two finalists.
The Foundation for Broadcast Culture will then conduct final interviews with the two remaining candidates before selecting the incoming president. The appointment is expected to be formally confirmed at MBC’s shareholders’ meeting on 14 September.
The public nomination committee session and final interviews will also be streamed online, providing audiences with an opportunity to follow the leadership selection process. The appointment will mark the beginning of a new leadership chapter for MBC as the broadcaster continues to navigate a rapidly evolving media landscape.
