Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) has marked its 81st anniversary by reaffirming its commitment to public service broadcasting while placing digital transformation, innovation and greater audience engagement at the centre of its future direction.

Celebrated under the theme “The Voice of Indonesia: Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous,” the anniversary highlighted RRI’s continuing role as a source of information, education and social connection, alongside its efforts to adapt to a rapidly changing media environment.

Speaking during the anniversary celebrations, RRI President Director Hendrasmo emphasised the importance of transforming the broadcaster into a truly multiplatform organisation. Rather than expecting audiences to seek out traditional radio services, he said RRI must increasingly reach audiences wherever they are and across the platforms they use.

RRI’s recently introduced logo was highlighted as one of the first visible steps in this transformation. Featuring a digital-style font, the new identity represents the organisation’s move towards modernisation and its commitment to adapting to technological change.

The broadcaster is also strengthening the skills of its workforce through training and capacity-building programmes as it expands its multiplatform operations. Improving the quality and appeal of both broadcast and digital content remains another priority.

RRI is also looking to strengthen interactive and on-demand content. Its Halo RRI programme is being developed as a platform connecting the public with the broadcaster, while greater emphasis is being placed on podcasts and other content that audiences can access at their convenience.

As RRI enters its 82nd year, the broadcaster is positioning innovation, collaboration, professionalism and digital adaptation as key elements in ensuring that its public service mission continues to reach audiences across Indonesia in an evolving media landscape.
