Vietnam Television’s digital arm, VTV Digital, has successfully delivered high-definition, multi-channel live streaming to more than 22 million viewers across Vietnam, using cloud technology to manage unprecedented levels of online traffic.
VTV Digital, which operates Vietnam’s national OTT platform VTVgo, used Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support coverage of a major international sports tournament, introducing its first high-definition, multi-language viewing experience.
The platform introduced a premium tier featuring Full HD 1080p streaming, video-on-demand replays, match and player highlights, as well as a choice of Northern-tone, Southern-tone, original feed or English commentary. The enhanced service attracted more than 600,000 new subscriptions during the tournament.
At peak periods, the system handled more than 704,000 requests per second, while on its busiest day VTV Digital delivered 5.7 petabytes of content — more than 500 times its average daily traffic. The cloud-based infrastructure allowed VTV Digital to scale its streaming capacity as audience demand increased while maintaining reliable delivery and consistent viewing quality across the country.
Following the tournament, VTV Digital continued using the infrastructure for its coverage of the ASEAN Championship (AFF Cup) and plans to expand its use across additional live programming and channels.
The development forms part of VTV Digital’s wider digital transformation strategy, with the broadcaster looking to deliver more year-round live and on-demand news, entertainment and sports content while providing audiences with more personalised viewing options across devices.
