The 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 have concluded following two weeks of sporting action in Japan, with the ABU successfully delivering English-language commentary services for the Games’ World Feed.
Under an agreement with the Games Host Broadcaster, with the consent and cooperation of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the ABU Sports Department coordinated and delivered English commentary services across 12 sports and 20 venues, including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
A team of 24 experienced commentators and producers, with backgrounds spanning the Olympic Games, World Championships and previous Asian Games, worked alongside the ABU on-site team throughout the Games. The ABU team coordinated technical setup, programme scheduling, commentary monitoring, logistics and daily operational adjustments to ensure smooth and consistent delivery throughout the competition.
The English commentary operation received positive recognition from the Host Broadcaster, while partner commentators also expressed their appreciation for the organisational and operational support provided by the ABU throughout the Games.
Beyond the commentary operation, the ABU continued to support its members on the media rights side. The ABU’s expertise, cooperation with the Olympic Council of Asia, regional network and engagement with rights stakeholders were instrumental in helping selected ABU members secure last-minute broadcasting rights for the Asian Games. Through these efforts, ABU members were able to provide coverage of the Games to their audiences, contributing to a combined reach of more than 300 million viewers.
The successful completion of the project demonstrates the ABU’s ability to support its members across both media rights and broadcast services, while coordinating effectively with international rights holders, organisers, broadcasters and production personnel.
The Aichi-Nagoya experience also lays important groundwork for the ABU’s future involvement in major multi-sport events. The operational experience gained through coordinating commentators, production teams, technical requirements, member services and stakeholder relations provides a strong foundation for future Games and further strengthens the ABU’s role as a trusted media services partner for its members.”
