Bangladesh Betar is looking to expand its annual debate competition to districts across the country, creating more opportunities for young people to develop their communication, critical thinking and public speaking skills.
The proposed expansion was announced by State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury during the Betar Debate Competition 2026 ceremony, organised by Bangladesh Betar in Dhaka on 7 October.
Speaking at the event, the State Minister highlighted the importance of debate competitions in helping students strengthen their reasoning, research, analytical and presentation skills. He emphasised that effective debating should be based on accurate information, sound knowledge and constructive discussion.
The initiative reflects wider efforts to encourage students to participate in activities beyond the classroom, helping them build confidence, creativity and leadership skills that will benefit them in their future careers.
The competition saw St Joseph School emerge as champion, while Shamsul Haque Khan School secured the runners-up position. Participating students, teachers and organisers were recognised for their contributions to the event.
Bangladesh Betar Director General A S M Zahid chaired the ceremony, which also featured the presentation of trophies, certificates and commemorative crests to the winning teams.
The proposed regional expansion would allow Bangladesh Betar to extend the competition’s reach, encouraging greater youth participation and supporting the development of informed, confident young communicators across Bangladesh.
