Khabar Agency Expands Live News Coverage and Embraces AI Innovation

21 Oct 2026

Kazakhstan’s Khabar Agency has introduced a new broadcasting format for its 24KZ television channel, significantly expanding live news coverage while outlining plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its content management operations.

The developments were announced by Khabar Agency Chairperson Lyazzat Tanysbai during Astana Media Week 2026 on 14 October, where media professionals and technology experts gathered to discuss the growing influence of AI on the broadcasting industry.

Under the new format, introduced on 28 September 2026, 24KZ now delivers 18 hours of live broadcasting daily, from 7:00 AM to 1:00 AM. News bulletins have also been extended to one hour, allowing for more comprehensive reporting, expert commentary and in-depth analysis of national and international developments.

The revised programming schedule places greater emphasis on economic affairs, financial markets, regional issues and global developments. Morning broadcasts focus on breaking news and practical information, while daytime programmes feature discussions with industry specialists. Evening broadcasts provide analysis of major events, examining their causes, significance and wider implications.

Beyond its broadcasting operations, Khabar Agency is also exploring the use of AI to modernise its extensive television archives, which currently contain approximately 50,000 hours of content.

The proposed AI-powered system would enable journalists, editors and production teams to locate archival footage using keywords, events, names and visual content. This initiative is expected to improve production efficiency and make historical material more accessible for television and digital content development.

Addressing concerns about AI’s impact on employment, Tanysbai emphasised that technological advancement should complement rather than replace the expertise of media professionals. She highlighted creativity, experience, editorial judgement and human perspectives as essential qualities that remain central to quality broadcasting. The broadcaster also reaffirmed the importance of producing accurate, verified information, particularly as AI-powered services become increasingly dependent on reliable information sources.

Together, the expanded 24KZ broadcasting schedule and planned AI initiatives demonstrate Khabar Agency’s commitment to strengthening news delivery, improving operational efficiency and preparing its workforce for the evolving digital media landscape.
