ABU celebrates Al Jazeera’s 30th

6 Nov 2026

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) recently had the pleasure of celebrating the 30th anniversary of Al Jazeera at the Hemisfera Luxury Sky Hall, Menara Kuala Lumpur.

Over the past three decades, journalists of diverse ethnicities and religions have played a crucial role in shaping the network’s journey and influencing millions of viewers around the world. To honour those who have worked both in front of and behind the lens, a tribute video commemorating Al Jazeera’s late journalists and media personnel was screened during the ceremony.

Since its launch on 1 November 1996, Al Jazeera has expanded its reach to more than 430 million households worldwide.

The event was also graced by the presence of His Excellency Salah bin Mohammed Al-Sorour, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Malaysia; Liew Chin Tong, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Finance; and Samer Allawy, Al Jazeera’s Kuala Lumpur Bureau Chief.

Congratulations to Al Jazeera on this remarkable milestone.
