ABU publishes Building Resilient Media People

1 Oct 2026

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has officially released the third edition of ABU News, entitled Building Resilient Media People. This new report provides a look into the lived experiences, challenges, and strength of the region’s media professionals. Edited by Nerina Rosli, ABU News Project Officer, this latest report brings a diverse collective voice, not just from within the newsroom, but across the media ecosystem.

This edition documented written essays from ABU member representatives and key stakeholders across the industry. Contributing authors come from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Limited, TV5 Mongolia, Capital Maharaja Group, Televisi Republik Indonesia, France Télévisions, European Broadcasting Union, BBC Media Action, MediaStrong, UNI Global Union, University of Wollongong Malaysia, and Multimedia University Malaysia.

Research on newsroom mental wellbeing

At the heart of this third edition is a comprehensive analysis of the latest Future of News Survey, conducted in collaboration with the University of Wollongong Malaysia. Led by Dr Naim Muhamad Ali, the research builds on data from 2024 and 2025, introducing an updated focus on the mental health and wellbeing of media professionals.

Through regional outreach by the ABU Secretariat, the survey achieved its highest participation rate to date, receiving responses from 103 newsroom professionals across 43 organisations in 27 ABU member countries, including: Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Fiji, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
