Japan’s public broadcaster NHK has announced developments in its digital services and broadcasting technology, including the expansion of its NHK ONE platform and continued collaboration on a major space exploration project.
Speaking at NHK’s regular presidential press conference on 21 October, President Tatsuhiko Inoue highlighted the first anniversary of NHK ONE and the launch of a new educational section, NHK ONE Kyoyo.
The new section will initially feature approximately 20 programme series covering history, nature, and war and peace. It will provide audiences with educational resources and short video clips lasting between five and 15 minutes, drawing on NHK’s extensive archive of educational programming.
NHK also highlighted its collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on the Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission. The spacecraft will carry jointly developed 8K and 4K Super Hi-Vision cameras designed to capture high-resolution images of Mars and its moons.
The initiative aims to support scientific research while creating opportunities for NHK to bring unprecedented space imagery to television audiences.
Together, these developments demonstrate NHK’s commitment to digital innovation, educational content and the application of advanced broadcasting technologies beyond conventional television production.
