Radio Pakistan Peshawar Reopens Following Major Rehabilitation

29 Sep 2026

Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) has reopened its newly rehabilitated and renovated Radio Pakistan Peshawar building, marking an important milestone in the restoration of the historic broadcasting facility.

Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, officially inaugurated the renovated building on 22 September, following extensive rehabilitation work after the facility was severely damaged in May 2023. Despite the damage, PBC was able to restore transmission from Peshawar within just 26 hours, allowing broadcasting services to resume while longer-term reconstruction plans were put in place.

According to PBC Director General Saeed Ahmad Sheikh, the full rehabilitation project was subsequently completed in five months and 26 days, at an estimated cost of PKR100 million. The restoration covered different sections of the Broadcasting House, including its museum, preserving an important part of Pakistan’s broadcasting heritage while upgrading the facility for continued operations.

Radio Pakistan Peshawar holds particular historical significance for the country. The station was among the broadcasting facilities that carried the announcement of Pakistan’s independence in Urdu and Pashto.During the inauguration, the Information Minister toured various sections of the renovated building and reviewed the completed restoration work.

The reopening represents both the recovery of an important PBC broadcasting facility and the preservation of a site that has played a significant role in Pakistan’s broadcasting history.
