Today, the Global News Forum (GNF) returns to Australia for the first time in ten years, bringing together news leaders, journalists and media professionals in Sydney for three days of conversations about the future of journalism.

In partnership with the ABC, this year’s Forum takes on the theme of “Resilient Journalism: Safeguarding Truth and Wellbeing,” exploring two issues that are inseparable from the future of our industry: protecting the integrity of the facts we report and supporting the people who bring those stories to the public.

At a time of rapid technological change, growing misinformation and increasing pressures on journalists, resilience is no longer simply about adapting. It is about ensuring that journalism remains trusted, responsible and sustainable.

Over the next three days, GNF 2026 will create a space for news leaders and practitioners to share experiences, challenge ideas and explore practical ways forward. As the Forum gets underway today, we look forward to the conversations, connections and ideas that will emerge from Sydney, and to bringing those insights back to our wider ABU community.
