LPP Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Ambon began its celebrations for the 81st Radio Day on 1 September 2026, with a programme of environmental, social, sporting and community activities planned throughout the month.
The celebrations began with a launch followed by a healthy walk and the “Clean Ambon” environmental initiative. Participants travelled from the RRI Ambon office through several locations in the city before returning to the station, highlighting RRI’s commitment to making the anniversary more than a ceremonial occasion. RRI Ambon also organised outreach activities for RRI listeners and supporters, people with disabilities and retired staff who were unwell. Radios and basic food packages were distributed as part of the station’s community outreach efforts.
The celebrations also featured sporting and recreational competitions, including table tennis and gaplek, aimed at strengthening relationships and fostering a sense of togetherness among RRI staff, retirees and members of the wider RRI community. Vera J. Souhoka, Head of the 81st Radio Day Implementation Team at RRI Ambon, said the activities were intended to deliver meaningful benefits to the community while strengthening RRI’s relationship with its listeners.
The main Radio Day commemoration will take place on 11 September, with a ceremony followed by the lighting of the RRI Tri Prasetya Torch, which will be held simultaneously across Indonesia.
Souhoka said the anniversary was also an opportunity for RRI to reinforce its role as a public broadcaster, providing accurate, educational and entertaining information while continuing to adapt to changing audience needs.
