SBA and Arabsat Strengthen Satellite Broadcasting Resilience

22 Sep 2026

The Saudi Broadcasting Authority (SBA) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Arabsat aimed at strengthening the resilience, reliability and continuity of satellite broadcasting services.

The agreement was signed during IBC 2026 in Amsterdam by SBA Assistant President for Engineering Affairs Hatem Abu Nasif and Arabsat President and CEO Dr Badr N. Al-Suwaidan.

At the heart of the partnership is the development of business continuity services designed to ensure broadcasting operations remain reliable under different circumstances and are better prepared to respond to potential disruptions.

The collaboration will focus on strengthening satellite broadcasting networks and supporting the continuity of media operations, while enhancing the technical capabilities required for a more resilient and sustainable broadcasting environment.

For SBA, the agreement forms part of its continuing efforts to develop Saudi Arabia’s broadcasting infrastructure and adopt technologies and systems that improve the reliability of its media services.     The latest agreement also builds on an existing relationship between SBA and Arabsat. The two organisations previously entered into a long-term agreement to expand the international distribution of Saudi television channels through Arabsat’s satellite network.

Through the new partnership, SBA and Arabsat are placing greater emphasis on operational preparedness and business continuity as broadcasting organisations increasingly depend on robust and reliable distribution infrastructure.

The cooperation reflects both organisations’ commitment to strengthening broadcast capabilities and developing a media ecosystem that is better equipped to respond to technological change and future operational demands.
