“It’s always hard to do breaking news because on the ground there are many hazards, particularly as we have global warming and many disasters nowadays,” said Trevor Lee, Managing Editor (New Media) at TVB Hong Kong, reflecting on the high-stakes environment in which his team operates. “Condolences to the lives lost. We will scrutinise every legislation, follow up on all of the rebuilding of the Wang Fuk Court incident, and we’ll always tell the story untold.”

Lee’s remarks came as TVB Hong Kong emerged as the big winner at this year’s Asiavision Awards, achieving double honours for its exceptional reporting on the tragic Tai Po fire at Wang Fuk Court.

The broadcaster secured the prestigious Breaking News award, recognised for its swift, authoritative, and comprehensive live, on-the-ground coverage during the sudden major disaster.

TVB was also awarded News Story of the Year for its coverage of the emergency for its strong journalistic integrity, emotional resonance, and deep public service impact.

Accepting the top honours on behalf of his team, Lee emphasised the deep responsibility and pride in bringing Hong Kong’s stories to a global audience. “It’s always a pleasure to tell stories from our home because it’s a very vibrant city. Whether something sad happens or something cultural, we always love to tell the world what’s happening.”

He added, “it’s really our pleasure to showcase how an international city functions, and how East and West cultures coming together can be a paradigm for the world to see ‘a community of unity.’ We wish to bring more stories to Asiavision and its members, and we will do our best to tell you more about our home and the world.”

The annual Asiavision Awards celebrate dedication, innovation, and journalism across the region. This year, the secretariat received over 300 entries across 10 award categories, making TVB Hong Kong’s double victory a standout recognition.
