The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has elected Chevaan Daniel, Group Director of Capital Maharaja Group and Maharaja Media Network, Sri Lanka, as its new Vice-President during the 63rd ABU General Assembly and Associated Meetings in Colombo.
Mr Daniel’s election marks a historic milestone, making him the first Sri Lankan to hold the position of ABU Vice-President in the Union’s 63-year history.
With nearly three decades of experience spanning journalism, broadcasting and corporate leadership, Mr Daniel has played a significant role in Sri Lanka’s media industry. His work also extends to community development through the Gammadda Movement, which focuses on addressing the needs of underserved communities.
The election carries particular significance as Sri Lanka hosted the ABU General Assembly for the first time, with MTV Sri Lanka serving as the host broadcaster.
Mr Daniel’s appointment strengthens Sri Lanka’s representation in regional broadcasting leadership and reflects the growing importance of cooperation among public and private broadcasters.
His election represents another step towards strengthening the ABU’s mission of fostering innovation, collaboration and meaningful partnerships across the Asia-Pacific broadcasting community.
