Football fans across Bangladesh will be able to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 on national television after the government approved Bangladesh Television’s (BTV) acquisition of the tournament’s all-media broadcasting rights.

The approval follows weeks of uncertainty surrounding the availability of the World Cup in Bangladesh after previous rights negotiations encountered difficulties. With the government’s backing, BTV is now set to bring the world’s biggest football tournament to audiences nationwide.

The move ensures that viewers across the country will have access to live coverage of the expanded 48-team tournament, which kicks off on 11 June in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The decision reinforces BTV’s role as Bangladesh’s primary public broadcaster for major international sporting events and guarantees widespread access to one of the most anticipated sporting spectacles in the world.
