The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has appointed senior Reuters executive Simon Robinson as its new Director of News and Current Affairs, marking one of the broadcaster’s most significant newsroom leadership appointments in recent years.

Currently serving as Executive Editor at Reuters in London, Robinson will join the ABC in September, succeeding Justin Stevens, who recently stepped down from the role after four years.

ABC Managing Director Hugh Marks described Robinson as one of the most respected newsroom leaders in global journalism, highlighting his extensive experience in leading large-scale news operations and his commitment to independent, fact-based reporting.

Robinson brings decades of international journalism experience, having previously worked as a foreign correspondent and editor across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
