TBS Expands Global Content Strategy Through New International Partnership

13 May 2026

Tokyo Broadcasting System Television has taken another step toward strengthening its international content ambitions through a new cross-border entertainment partnership involving South Korea’s CJ ENM and U-NEXT Holdings.

The collaboration will see the establishment of a new joint venture known as StudioMonowa, aimed at developing and producing content for both regional and global audiences. The partnership reflects the growing trend of Asian broadcasters and entertainment companies working together to expand intellectual property development, drama production, and streaming distribution beyond their domestic markets.

For TBS, the move signals a continued push toward internationalisation as Japanese broadcasters increasingly seek new growth opportunities through co-productions, digital platforms, and overseas content distribution. With global demand for Asian entertainment continuing to rise, strategic partnerships are becoming an increasingly important part of long-term broadcasting and streaming strategies.

Industry observers note that collaborations between Japanese and Korean media companies have grown significantly in recent years, particularly as audiences worldwide show stronger interest in Asian dramas, reality programming, and entertainment formats.

The establishment of StudioMonowa also highlights how traditional broadcasters are adapting to an increasingly competitive global media landscape, where content partnerships, streaming expansion, and international audience reach are becoming central to future growth.
