Bangladesh Betar, established in 1939, is the country’s national radio network. The state-run media plays a pivotal role in the area of mass communications in the country through its network comprising 12 stations and six units.
Its 12 regional broadcasting stations are located in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, Sylhet, Thakurgaon, Rangamati, Barishal, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban and Comilla. The total airtime of the network is 260 hours a day. Bangladesh Betar has 71 studios and 28 channels.
Bangladesh Betar transmits its programmes through 15 mediumwave (MW), two shortwave (SW) and 12 FM frequencies. Its overseas services broadcast programmes in six languages — namely Bangla, English, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi and Nepali.
