Educational Radio and Television (ERTV) was founded in 1969 in Kabul, Afghanistan. It is a national free-to-air broadcaster involved in the production and broadcast of quality software for education and is fully funded by the Government of Afghanistan. It has an exclusive television channel and FM radio station for broadcasting educational programs (enrichment and curriculum based) for 12 hours a day television broadcasts and 24-hour radio broadcast services.
ERTV’s main activities are the production and broadcasting of educational radio and television programmes. The dissemination of educational programs broadcast through radio and television is supported by the Ministry of Education to reach remote and insecure areas, giving people the opportunity to acquire and improve literacy skills, allowing women and girls to improve their education and the spread proper language usage.
They produce educational programmes for other Government Ministries and UN agencies and they have produced more than 100 radio and 10 television programmes for teachers, based on the in-service teacher training package. Their programmes include Islamic education, children’s programming, sport, home arrangement, arts, educational news and reports, general school subjects, nursery education for the young and many others.
