Media Niugini Limited is a corporate entity. It is a premier free-to-air television station in Papua New Guinea as well as a media organisation.
EMTV is the national television service owned and controlled by Media Niugini Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiji TV Limited. Media Niugini Limited employs approximately 80 people. Ninety-eight percent of the staff at EMTV is Papua New Guinean.
The head office of Media Niugini Limited, along with the studios of EMTV are located at Garden City, Boroko, in Papua New Guinea’s capital of Port Moresby.
EMTV commenced broadcasting in July 1987. A transmission centre was opened in Lae in April 1988 with similar centres launched at Mt Hagen, Goroka, Arawa and Rabaul in rapid succession. A milestone was reached in June 1989 when EMTV could be received live in Lae, Mt Hagen and Goroka.
EMTV is now received in real time via satellite in 38 centres throughout Papua New Guinea. EMTV/MNL reaches about half of the six million people in the country. This allows the population of Papua New Guinea access to the latest news, sport, information and entertainment from within Papua New Guinea and around the world.
