Jordan
Radio transmission in Jordan started in 1956 and TV broadcast on 27 April 1968. In 1985, Jordan Radio and Jordan Television merged to form JRTV.
JRTV is a public broadcaster with a staff of approximately 1,500 employees. About 80 percent of its funds, equivalent to JOD$18.5 million a year (US$26 million), comes from the government.
JRTV operates one terrestrial channel, covering areas under the Palestinian National Authority, Syria, northern Saudi Arabia, Israel, South Lebanon and Cyprus. It has two space channels — Jordan Television and Jordan Sports Channel on Nilesat and Arabsat, covering the Middle East, Europe and North America.
JRTV broadcasts mainly in Arabic with English news bulletins on its main channel and satellite channel. There are five radio programmes broadcasting general, foreign, religious, entertainment and sport programmes.
