Established on 27 April 1973, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) or Association of Broadcasters of the Philippines is an organisation of radio and television broadcasters, comprising 150 members. Membership is open to both private and government broadcasting organisations, whether commercial or non-commercial broadcasters, although most of its members are private commercial broadcasters.
Among the KBP’s aims are: to elevate the standards of performance of the broadcast media, promote positive social change through broadcasting, and promote the growth and development of radio and television broadcasting in a democratic society.
The KBP has been involved in the formulation of a Radio and Television Code covering programming, advertising, and business practices; the formulation of the technical standards for AM, FM, and TV; and the establishment of the KBP Standards Authority, a non-government body which adjudicates complaints against broadcasters.
It also organises training programmes for broadcasters, accredits announcers, and assists members in collecting receivables from advertisers and advertising agencies.
It is regularly invited by the Congress of the Philippines to present its position on proposed laws that could affect the broadcast media. It also works closely with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in the formulation and implementation of government rules and regulations for the broadcast media.
