Established in 1974, EBS is a public broadcasting company that aims to inform, educate, engage and enlighten people from all walks of life. EBS is determined to develop into a global educational broadcasting company for lifelong public education. EBS strives to supplement public education and promote education for everyone. As an educational broadcasting system, EBS assists public education and reduces high costs of private education.
EBS now operates seven channels. EBS TV is a terrestrial public channel which contains premium documentaries and preschool and youth programmes.
EBS Radio offers for foreign language education and reading programs. EBS Plus 1 is a channel is a channel for preparing high school students for College Scholastic Ability Tests (CSAT). EBS Plus 2 is a satellite channel mainly for elementary and middle school education and occupational training. EBS English is designed to support the English curriculum in public schools. EBS U is a newly launched channel specialized in preschool and children’s programs while EBS America is a premium educational channel for Korean- Americans.
EBS’s nationally and globally recognised educational programmes have gained it a reputation for reforming global educational media as a whole. EBS is also contributing to raising the awareness and knowledge of audiences through premium documentaries and cultural programmes. In this sense, EBS International documentary Festival (EIDF), launched in 2004, presents diverse cultural perspectives through a variety of documentaries.
