Trans World Radio Pacific began broadcasting from the island of Guam in September 1977.
KTWR began with two 100kw shortwave transmitters and by 1982, it had expanded to four 100kw transmitters each with its own TCI 611 curtain antenna. In 1995, a fifth 100kw transmitter and antenna were also added. Broadcasts are directed to Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Southeast Asia, India, China, South Korea, Japan and Mongolia.
KTWR marked its 30th anniversary in September 2007. In 2002, KTWR’s shortwave broadcasts had reached the capacity of 40 hours of daily broadcasting in 26 languages within the Asia-Pacific region.
Today, KTWR broadcasts in 19 languages and dialects to Asia. In keeping with technological advancements, KTWR is preparing for DRM broadcasting. Specific programming is aired for adults, youths, women and children.
In 2010, we retired two of our original 100kw transmitters and installed DRM-capable 250kw transmitters.
