The Capital Maharaja Organization Limited in 1992 set up the first private television station in Sri Lanka. The group now owns and operates 3 television channels, 5 FM Radio stations broadcasting in Sinhala, English and Tamil. The company’s news network, News 1st has established itself as Sri Lanka’s premier news provider and global news brand operating the country’s largest electronic newsroom and providing over 200 balanced, timely news reports a day in 3 languages across the 8 channels. The group also owns “Stein Studios”, the 6 studio production hub of MTV, specialising in the most cost-effective production of game shows, reality shows, sitcoms and soaps.
The studios provide a wide range of facilities with 6 modern studios, 2000-seat auditorium capability, 45 cameras, 2 jimmy jibs with Dutch head, tracks and dolly, programmable intelligent lighting system, LED video wall 24ft by 12ft and can be assembled to suit individual productions and modern A/V production facilities. Stein Studios are also available with all facilities for pre-booked hire.
In post-production, the studio provides tape and tapeless production workflows using Omnium Server and Edit Share, 12 edit suites (Avid and Final Cut Pro) and graphic Mac suites. In outside broadcasting, our 2 outside broadcast trucks are equipped with 14 cameras and 16 x 24 inputs.
MTV Channel (Pvt) Limited has also invested and commissioned a broadcast management system, which provides an end-to-end solution for commercial trafficking and order booking linked to the digital auto playout including content management.
MTV/MBC has embraced new technology to further enhance its content delivery for its loyal fan base. The Group became the first media network in Sri Lanka to partner with the world’s most popular video sharing platform YouTube while partnering with innovation leader Google for digital ad propagation across it website network. The Group is also the market leader in social media with a fan base of over a million users. Platforms such as Twitter and Facebook have been used to create unprecedented levels of follower interaction during breaking news coverage and reality show programming.
