At the time when most of the TV stations across the world have been switching to full automation, Nepal Television, the state- own Television of Nepal is still striving for common minimum professional and technical status, however, it is scheduled to migrate analogue to digital by 2017 and gradual process for the migration has begun.
Established in January 1985, Nepal Television (NTV) is regulated by the state as a public broadcasting house. It continues to serve the nation by providing information, education, health information and entertainment. NTV is accessible in Nepal’s mountains, hills, Tarai plains and throughout the world.
NTV has always been committed to promoting democracy and pluralism in Nepal as well as strengthening national unity. NTV has been producing and broadcasting news, documentaries, telefilms, comedy shows, interviews, educational, entertainment and other productions as a mix channel.NTV is now in ready-mode to expand its regional transmissions from eastern and mid western regions, namely, Itahari and Kohalpur.
NTV communicates Nepal’s voice internally and abroad through high quality news and programmes that appeal across all genres. Its second channel NTV Plus, an entertainment channel, is popular among the youth. Both NTV and NTV Plus’ broadcast content aims to inspire positive change in social, environmental and personal life.
A third channel is imminent in Nepal Television which will serve more to international audience and different strata of domestic society and age groups with value added services.
NTV airs its programmes using terrestrial, satellite, DTH, the Internet and cable systems. Terrestrially, NTV’s signal reaches 72 percent of the country’s population. It covers 50 percent of the total landmass. Its signals reach is currently 116 countries via satellite.
