Pakistan Television Corporation, a public limited company, started in 1964 with a six-hour transmission from the Lahore TV Centre. Today, PTV provides round-the-clock information and entertainment via its four channels throughout the country and to audiences across the world.
A board of directors appointed by the government of Pakistan manages its operations. The PTV network comprises seven channels. PTV Home, its flagship channel is watched in over 50 countries while PTV News, its news channel, provides 24 hours of the most up-to-date news and current affairs programmes — both channels cover about 90 percent of the population terrestrially via 100 transmitters and are linked to Asiasar-3S, reaching more than 50 countries.
PTV-National is a satellite channel that broadcasts local news and entertainment programmes in all Pakistani regional languages. PTV Global-USA and PTV-Global UK serve viewers in the US, the UK and Europe with entertainment and news programmes respectively. PTB Bolan broadcasts entertainment and news programmes in the Baluchi language, while AJK TV, a Kashmiri channel, provides a variety of programmes for Kashmiri viewers.
PTV’s production centres are based in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and Muzaffarabad with 22 studios equipped with state-of-the-art digital equipment. PTV has more than 6,000 employees.
