Qatar
Qatar Media Corporation (formerly known as Qatar Radio and Television Corporation) is a government broadcasting organisation employing 700 people in its television operations and 350 in radio. It comprises Qatar TV, Qatar Radio, Dawri Al-Kass Sports Channel and Sout Al-Khaleej Radio.
Qatar TV’s service is primarily satellite digital-based via Ku-band on ArabSat. Its analogue service, with a coverage that extends into the African continent, runs over C band and there is some interest to turn this into a digital service. A local UHF terrestrial TV channel serves Doha only. Its television channels are all broadcast in the Arabic language.
The domestic and satellite channels are located in Qatar TV’s compound a few kilometers from the centre of Doha, the capital of Qatar. Its radio broadcasts are in Arabic, English, French and some South Asian dialects to serve those from that region who are working in Qatar. Qatar Radio operates five FM networks and has plans to add more networks throughout the kingdom, in addition to MF and HF shortwave services. The station is currently finalising its archiving policy.
Qatar Media Corporation is also involved in the operation of a well-equipped broadcast training centre and has been able to train its local workforce.
