Sri Lanka
The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation(SLRC), the national television broadcaster, will mark its 32nd anniversary in February 2014.
SLRC was established in 1982 as a grant-in-aid project by the Japanese government. SLRC represents Sri Lanka’s diversity, values, interests and needs, and reaches out to its audience in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
SLRC presently operates four programme channels: Rupavahini, Channel Eye, Nethra and NTV. It is committed to informing its audience about international current affairs as well as providing info-tainment programmes. Over the years, SLRC has been providing interesting and varied programmes that appeal to the multi-ethnic, multi-religious population of Sri Lanka.
Partnering the government, SLRC has also been involved in corporate social responsibility projects, such “Rupavahini Jathika Pasala”, which aims to provide comprehensive education for advanced-level students through the audio-visual medium.
SLRC is now on the verge of commencing Digital Terrestrial Television transmission islandwide with the help of Japanese government.
SLRC has taken advantage of its membership in many broadcasting associations to have its staff trained in the latest production and transmission techniques, and to keep abreast with technological developments.
