Wednesday 06 Jul 2011
The second ABU preparatory seminar on the ITU’s World Radiocommunication Conference 2012 (WRC-12) in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, started on 4 July.

The four-day seminar will end on 7 July 2011 and conclude with the preparation of draft ABU proposals on selected agenda items for the WRC-12 conference.

The seminar will expose the participants to the spectrum-related issues related to broadcasting services. The ITU’s WRC-12 conference will decide on many frequency spectrum matters, some of which are of importance for broadcasters.

Some issues which are of particular importance are the protection of broadcasting services in the UHF band, frequency harmonisation for ENG links and usage of the 21 GHz satellite TV services. There are also many other issues on the agenda that will possibly impact broadcasting and its related services.

The event is attended by over 30 participants, including spectrum experts from the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. The seminar will also be hosting a half-day session of the World Broadcasting Unions-Technical Committee’s Spectrum Group.

The event is organised by the ABU with support from the Hoso-Bunka Foundation (HBF) and with assistance from the ITU, EBU, NHK, RTPRC, TVNZ, IRIB and AsiaSat.
